Greetings in the name of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!

We are so glad that you’ve taken a moment to visit the Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church website. Here, we practice Radical Hospitality, which means we strive to welcome and embrace all people as Christ has welcomed us—without reservation, with open arms, and with a heart full of grace. Our mission is to bring people closer to Christ, and we believe that by following the will and way of the Lord, we can make a true difference in our lives, our community, and in the world.

As we embark on this journey together, we are engaging in the Genesis Project, a theme inspired by the opening words of Scripture: “In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.” Just as God created a beautiful world and breathed life into it, we believe that God is able to create New Beginnings, New Chapters, and New Opportunities in the life of our church, in the neighborhood of Deanwood, and beyond.

At Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church, we offer a variety of ways to grow in faith. Our Sermon Series, Bible Studies, and engaging events and activities provide opportunities for spiritual growth, fellowship, and service. We believe that God has a unique plan for each of us, and we invite you to join us as we seek to discover and live out that plan.

Whether you are new to the area, new to church, or simply seeking a place to grow closer to Christ, we invite you to join us on Sunday mornings for worship. Feel free to bring a family member or close friend, as we gather together to worship, learn, and experience the love of God in community.

We look forward to meeting you and walking with you on this exciting journey of faith!

Yours in Christ,

Reverend Brian Keith McCollum, M.Div., M.S.

UPCOMING EVENTS AT Sargent

  • March Sermon Series: "Comfort, Compromise, and Commitments"

March challenges the church to move from complacency to conviction. Joshua’s charge to Israel is a clarion call for every believer who has grown comfortable in convenience. The tension between comfort and commitment is timeless… many want the blessing of the promise without the burden of obedience. Joshua stands as a spiritual mirror, asking, “Who will you serve?” This month’s series invites worshippers to re-evaluate loyalties, renew vows, and reject spiritual compromise. It’s about rediscovering the fire of first love… where faith becomes action and worship becomes a lifestyle. The supporting scriptures reinforce that lukewarm living leads to spiritual stagnation, while wholehearted devotion leads to divine favor. March, situated during Lent, invites self-examination and recommitment to God’s purpose. Click here to view the series!

  • Weekly Devotional | "Comfort, Compromise, and Commitments" Week 1: "The Danger of Comfort Zones"

Comfort can quietly dull our spiritual passion. When faith becomes convenient rather than convicting, we risk drifting into lukewarm living—neither fully surrendered nor openly resistant. God’s desire is not comfort, but commitment that stretches us beyond familiarity and into faithful obedience. Click here for more information!

  • ✊🏾 Black History Moments Our History Is Sacred. Our Story Continues.

What began as a February celebration is now a continued commitment. Join us every second Sunday as we honor powerful, often overlooked figures whose lives reflect perseverance, faith, and purpose shaped through struggle. This month, we highlight Pauli Murray—lawyer, poet, and the first Black woman ordained as an Episcopal priest. Facing racism, sexism, and exclusion, Murray refused to compromise conviction for comfort. Their life embodies 1 Peter 5:10: “After you have suffered a little while, He will restore you and make you strong.” Explore how pain was transformed into purpose—and how commitment to justice can shape generations. 👉🏾 Click here for more information!

  • Honoring Women of Faith: Celebrating Women’s History Month

This March, our church celebrates Women’s History Month, honoring the faith, courage, and leadership of women who have shaped families, communities, and movements for justice. From the biblical women of faith to leaders such as Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Ida B. Wells, and Fannie Lou Hamer, women—especially Black women—have played powerful roles in the ongoing journey toward freedom, dignity, and equality. Their legacy reminds us that even in times when Black people were denied the right to read, gather, or own property—and faced violence such as lynching and the terror of the Ku Klux Klan—women continued to lead with courage and conviction. As we reflect on this history, we also celebrate the women in our own congregation whose faith, service, and leadership continue to strengthen our church and community today.
