Rev. Dr. Brian K. McCollum Biography

Rev. Dr. Brian Keith McCollum, Ph.D. is an educator, researcher, pastor, and nonprofit executive whose work focuses on educational leadership, community engagement, identity development, and institutional transformation. He serves as Senior Pastor of Sargent Memorial Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) and Chief Executive Officer of the Neighborhood Dream Center in Washington, D.C., where he leads initiatives that strengthen schools, churches, and communities through strategic partnerships and sustainable development.

Dr. McCollum earned his Ph.D. in Educational Management from Hampton University. His dissertation, Town and Gown: A Phenomenological Case Study Exploring the Relationship Between an Urban College and Its Local Community, examined how educational institutions can build stronger relationships with surrounding communities through innovative, equity-centered partnerships.

Throughout his career, Dr. McCollum has secured more than $50 million in philanthropic support for educational institutions and nonprofit organizations, including leading a $35 million capital campaign at Wesley Theological Seminary. His professional experience includes leadership positions at Princeton Theological Seminary and the internationally acclaimed Step Afrika!, where he traveled to more than 50 countries, using arts education as a vehicle for leadership development and cultural exchange.
A sought-after national presenter, Dr. McCollum speaks on educational leadership, school-community partnerships, student identity, and organizational transformation. He is the author of the forthcoming book, The Comparison Effect, which introduces a leadership framework for cultivating confidence, belonging, and purpose in schools and organizations. Dr. McCollum holds degrees from Morehouse College, Princeton Theological Seminary, Columbia University, and Hampton University and is passionate about equipping leaders to transform vision into lasting impact.

Brian is a “people” person and loves engaging with others. He lives by Philippians 1:6, “Be confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it to completion until the day of Jesus Christ!”
